MySpace is holding discussions with Universal Music, Sony BMG, Warner Music and EMI regarding offering music downloads to its users.
The new offering will allow users to download music from inside the MySpace portal and share it on their individual contact pages for the first time legally. In the past users have had ‘profile’ songs that are illegally using mp3s they have uploaded themselves.
MySpace is owned by its parent company NewsCorp, who are yet to see a increase in profit from the site as it loses market share to applications such as Facebook and Bebo.
